In the current economic climate, individuals and families have been doing all that they can to stretch their budgets as far as they can go. Even with the recession appearing to be over, and American life slowly improving, many people are still unemployed or working fewer hours than they would like to be. If used properly, credit cards can be a valuable asset to use for obtaining some extras in life. Many credit cards offer such rewards that can help persons obtain gift cards through point systems, cash back, or points for travel frequent flyer miles. All of this is in effect a reward for merely being a customer.

However, credit cards that do have these different perks can have higher interest rates. Depending upon the spending practices and monthly ability of the cardholder to pay off the card in full, the rewards may not be worth the higher interest rate. The best way to reap the benefits of credit cards with rewards is to maintain a good budget and pay off the card in full each month. Individuals need to read the fine print in order to determine if the rewards offered offset the potentially higher costs. Credit cards can be beneficial, but only when managed and used properly.

The goal of all people should be to keep their Credit score high or raise it. There are many little things to do in order to keep it well into the 700s, a sign of a good Credit score. A score below 700 reaching into the 600s is not a desirable place to be. With a low score, interest rates on homes and cars will be prohibitively high, costing thousands of dollars in added interest.

When your credit card bill comes, pay well more than the minimum and make sure the payment gets there on time. Online payments are not necessarily credited before sending the amount using the US Post Office. If you use a credit card occasionally do not cancel the credit card. Canceling a credit card entails a lesser amount of credit when adding all your cards together. The less amount of credit you have the lower the credit score grade in that particular category.

Missing a payment by omission will give the companies an excuse to raise your rates and this will effect your Credit score, especially because of the reason for the increase in rates. It is not always rational the way a Credit score is computed, but the game has to be played.

You can be one step ahead when you begin shopping for a new car by getting pre-approved car finance. And, it’s easier than you might think.

Having a pre-approved loan has a lot of advantages. For instance, you will be free to purchase a car from any dealership or an individual person. You won’t be stuck to purchasing a car from a specific seller just because they’re providing you with car financing.

It will also give you the advantage when it comes to bartering for the price of the car. Usually, when a seller knows that you already have the money to purchase the car, you can bargain for a greater discount. Money talks and when you have a pre-approved car finance loan, you have money!

When you get pre-approved for a loan, the lender will approve you for a certain amount that you can use. You will have the lowest amount of the loan and the highest amount. You can choose any car as long as the price falls between those two amounts.

Because of this fact, interest rates on practically any credit card you get is going to be higher than usual. With already having a credit history, your parents for instance, would be the ones receiving the usual interest rate.

Are you ready to be financially responsible with your college student credit cards? Be honest with yourself. A secured card might be the better place to start if you’re not sure. A bank or credit union can issue you a card with a limit. Your limit being the amount of your deposit. In this way you can learn about how late fees can add up and interest also. This is a lesson that is quickly learned and you will remember it for the rest of your life, that is the good news.

Lots of consumers have tried but failed to crack this act which has been amended several times for just the same reason.

One of the recent examples is a couple who ran up their debts to a whooping £120,000 and soon realized they couldn’t pay the monthly payments after their business collapsed. After a lot of brainstorming the couple thought that they had found a loophole in the system and could exploit it to pay off their entire debt amount.

They even got one of their banks to write off their debts, but as they tried this technique on other institutions they got noticed. Their case was immensely complex due to the techniques they had used by the High Court judge had the last laugh and told the couple to stop wriggling out of their debt and take care of it in a responsible manner.

The act is there to protect consumers from lenders who try to exploit them, but it is not for consumers who try to have their fun and try to rip these financial institutions apart. So, use it to your benefit but in an ethical manner.

Perhaps consumers can hope that the government is now beginning to get a little tougher where credit card fraud is concerned. Three brothers have now been jailed regarding their credit card factory. They are getting a total of 12 years for making credit and debit cards. They pleaded guilty in front of the Southwark Crown Court for the conspiracy to defraud.

Police were searching an office space in Brent. They were with the specialist credit fraud squad. They found evidence that the room was being used as a factory. During the search Mahmoud Charmaga, one of the brothers entered the building. He was arrested on the spot and his home was later searched. At the home a laptop and documents were found in his brother’s room regarding credit card theft.

The laptop had several credit card details on it with a reader/ writer, card skimmers, and fake ATM fronts. They also found keypads for stealing pins, and embossing press for making cards. Total the police found 600 counterfeit cards. Ahmed Charmaga, the third brother, was found to have rented the business office under a false name.

The cards had been used to purchase designer clothing, aftershaves, and to withdraw cash from the UK and international ATM’s. Ahmed Charmaga is 25. He received 4 and a half years of prison on top of a two year sentence. Mahmoud, 23, received 5 years, and Mohammed, 28, was given 2 years and 8 months of prison. All this totals 12 years if you look at it as a combined amount. Unfortunately the sentences for each are not very long. So, while the government is finding more fraudsters, they are still not being tough on the sentences. Most criminals who get a few years get out for parole, and go right back to being fraudsters.

Sometimes due to the credit history of a person, it becomes impossible for him to get a credit card from the bank or any other company. If a person is a immigrant or a refugee then he/she will have some definite problems getting credit cards. The bank or company may refuse to issue the credit card because the person may have bad credit record.

For any of these cases, there is a simple solution, a secured credit card. Banks are always ready to issue a secure credit card as in this case the banks have minimal risk. For issuing a secure credit card the person has to find someone who will be ready to take the risk on behalf of him. Otherwise he should deposit the same amount of money for which he wants receive a credit card. He must deposit the amount in the special unit of the bank. This unit of the bank is controlled by the accounts department of the bank. If the person is able to do any of these two things then the bank will easily issue a secured credit card for the person. Now if he can maintain a good record of payment on the secured credit card then the bank will be ready to issue a regular credit card in the name of that person.

Some experts say that as much as 70 percent of credit reports contain some type of error. And, around 25 percent of those errors are significant enough to prevent you from being approved for a loan. Experts also recommend that you obtain a credit report at least once a year to make sure the information is all correct.

Many consumers go for years and years without checking their credit reports. In fact, many will only find out there’s a problem when they’ve been turned down for a loan. By requesting a report on a yearly basis, you’ll be able to identify errors and rectify them before it’s too late.

Most common errors generally result in a reduction in your credit rating of from 20 to 30 points. However, more serious mistakes can decrease your rating 100 points or more. Especially if the error involves something as drastic as a bankruptcy or foreclosure.

As soon as you find an error, immediately contact the business that is involved. Get a statement showing that the debt has been paid off and keep track of all correspondence. And, inform the credit bureaus of the mistake. Creditors generally have 30 days to fix the error and it usually takes another 30 days for the error to be removed from your credit report.

What does Credit Card debt consolidation mean?

Well, it’s fairly simple. It means that all your credit cards and other store cards are consolidated into one card by a Credit Card consolidation company. These companies then offer you their card with much lower interest rates that can help you pay off your debt faster than you expected.

One of the key benefits of Credit Card debt consolidation is instead of paying a number of monthly bills; you make just one monthly payment, avoiding any lapse of payments.

There are a number of companies that offer their services for consolidating your debts. Many good companies offer a number of different plans and services to suit different needs. So, it’s important to shop around and understand what you are getting into before you settle on a plan.

Most companies offer a promotional 0% introductory offer and when this ends, you have to pay a certain amount of interest each month. The interest on these cards is comparatively lower than your loans or credit cards. However, don’t always settle for what interest rate the company offers, if you have a good credit history then bargain with them and you may be able to bring the interest rate even lower.

However, when making your choice, it can be helpful to determine which type of rewards credit card will suit you best. Here is an overview to the types of rewards credit cards that are available to consumers through various credit card companies.

Cash Back Rewards
Cash back rewards credit cards are available for consumers that wish to earn from one to five percent of the purchase amount which is placed on to the card through each billing cycle. Depending on the amount that the card Is used, these types of rewards can assist the consumer in building up funds that can be placed towards the balance or issued to the consumer as check.

Points Rewards
Points rewards programs are available to consumers that wish to collect points through the rewards program. These points are often earned for each dollar that is spent on the credit card account and can help the consumer to accumulate rewards that can be redeemed for everything from merchandise to their favorite retail gift certificates

Airline Miles Rewards
Airline mile rewards can be used to purchase plane tickets and other travel accommodations and can also be used to redeem for other merchandise through the mile program. Frequent flyers would benefit most from this type of program which often comes with perks associated with the airline.

These are the three most common types of rewards programs available for credit cards. Differentiating between the three can help the consumer to make an informed choice when it comes to choosing the credit card that they are going to become enrolled into.
